“From the moment you walk into Alpha Refinery, the vibe is totally different — it feels more like a cigar lounge than a doctor's office or clinic. It's welcoming, private, and one-on-one. You don't feel like just another number. They really took the time to break everything down in a way that made sense. I love what Alpha Refinery is doing and highly recommend them.”

PRP Thickens The Hair
You Still Have.
Timing Decides The Rest.
Platelet-rich plasma can strengthen follicles that are thinning. It cannot bring back a follicle that is already gone, and no injection will. We look at your scalp, and at the thyroid, iron and hormone markers that drive shedding, before anyone recommends a course.

Why We Test First
Hair Loss Is A Symptom.
Something Is Causing It.
Male pattern loss is the usual answer, but it is not the only one, and often not the only one at work. Injecting a scalp while the real driver keeps working is how men end up disappointed by a treatment that never had a fair chance.
Thyroid.
A thyroid running too slow or too fast can cause diffuse shedding. It is a simple blood test, and it is treatable. Hair often recovers once it is corrected, without any injections.
Iron.
Low ferritin is one of the better-documented nutritional contributors to shedding, and men are not routinely screened for it. It is inexpensive to correct and worth knowing before you commit to anything.
Hormones.
Testosterone, thyroid and the markers around them influence the hair cycle. Where the picture is more than pattern loss alone, the clinical protocol should reflect that. See testosterone therapy.
Stress, Illness, Weight Loss.
A major physical stressor can push many follicles into shedding a few months later. That pattern usually settles on its own. Treating it as permanent loss means paying for something time would have done.
Medications.
Several common prescriptions and supplements list hair shedding among their effects. Sometimes the best step is a talk with your prescriber, not a new procedure.
Scalp Conditions.
Inflammatory and scarring conditions of the scalp behave differently from pattern loss. Scarring loss will not respond to PRP, and that is worth knowing before you start.
The bloodwork is run in our own lab, at the same visit.
The process
Assess first.
Then decide.
-
The assessment.
Your scalp is examined and the pattern and stage established. The bloodwork that governs hair growth is run in our own lab while you are in the building, and baseline photographs are taken so later progress is measured, not remembered. If PRP is unlikely to help, you hear that here.
-
Your blood, prepared on site.
If PRP is right for you, a standard blood draw is processed to concentrate the platelet fraction. It is your own blood, with nothing synthetic added, prepared and used in the same appointment. Nothing is sent out and nothing is stored.
-
Given to the scalp.
A series of small injections across the thinning area. Most men describe it as uncomfortable rather than painful, and it is over in minutes. Topical numbing is available. No downtime, though some tenderness for a few hours is normal.
-
The course, then maintenance.
Typically three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, then maintenance every six to twelve months. Your clinician sets the interval to your response, not to a package. If it is not working for you, we will say so.
Far enough that your business stays yours.

Straight About The Evidence
What PRP Can
And Cannot Do.
You should hear these from us rather than find them out later.
It thickens. It does not bring back what is gone.
It is not FDA-approved for hair loss. PRP is a procedure that uses your own blood rather than a drug, so it does not carry an FDA approval for this use. That does not mean it is unstudied. It means the regulatory pathway is different from a medication's.
The evidence is promising, not conclusive. Studies of PRP for male pattern hair loss have generally reported improvements in density and thickness, but the trials tend to be small, preparation methods differ between clinics, and there is no single standard protocol. Anyone quoting you a guaranteed percentage is going beyond what the evidence supports.
It works on follicles that are still alive. Areas that have been completely bald for years have no follicle left to stimulate. That is why we stage the scalp before recommending a course, not after.
It is maintenance, not a permanent fix. Pattern loss is progressive. PRP may slow and partly reverse thinning while you continue it. Stopping generally means a gradual return to the underlying trend. Plan for an ongoing commitment, or do not start.
Results take months, and vary. Some men notice less shedding within weeks. Meaningful change in density, where it happens, usually shows over three to six months. Individual results vary, and we will not quote you a number to get you booked.
As Seen On
“I'm 56 and I've been to other men's health clinics that either feel way too clinical or lean too heavy into the ‘bro’ vibe. Alpha Refinery is completely different. The team actually wanted to talk with me — not just run me through a checklist. My GP usually just tells me to ‘eat healthy and exercise,’ but here I was given real solutions, clear guidance, and a plan that makes sense for me.”

Who This
Actually Suits.
PRP is not for everyone. Better to know that before the first session than after the fourth.
A Good Fit.
- Early to moderate thinning, where follicles are shrinking rather than gone
- A receding temple line or thinning crown you noticed in the last few years
- You want the drivers tested, not just the symptom injected
- You are willing to commit to a course and then maintenance
- You are an adult located in Illinois
Not A Fit.
- Long-established bald areas with no remaining follicle
- Scarring forms of hair loss, which do not respond to PRP
- Certain blood, platelet or clotting disorders
- Active infection or inflammation of the scalp
- You want a one-off treatment with a permanent result

Before You Book.
Does PRP actually work for hair loss?
For the right candidate, the published evidence is encouraging. Studies of PRP in male pattern hair loss have generally reported improvements in density and thickness compared with baseline or placebo. The honest caveats are that those trials tend to be small, preparation methods differ from clinic to clinic, and there is no single standard protocol.
So: promising, not proven to the standard of a licensed drug. It works best on follicles that are thinning rather than gone, which is why staging your scalp honestly matters more than any marketing claim.
How many sessions will I need?
Most men start with three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, then move to maintenance roughly every six to twelve months. Your clinician sets the interval based on how you respond, not to fit a package, and progress is compared against your baseline photographs rather than your memory.
When will I see results?
Some men notice less shedding within a few weeks, which is usually the first sign anything is happening. Meaningful change in density, where it happens, usually shows over three to six months as follicles move through new growth cycles. Hair grows slowly and there is no shortcut.
Individual results vary, and we will not quote you a percentage to get you booked.
Does it hurt, and how much downtime is there?
There is no downtime. Most men describe the injections as uncomfortable rather than painful, and it is over in minutes. Topical numbing is available. Some scalp tenderness for a few hours afterwards is normal, and you can return to normal activity straight away.
Is PRP safe? What is actually being injected?
It is your own blood. A standard sample is drawn and processed to concentrate the platelet fraction, and that concentrate is returned to your scalp in the same appointment. Nothing synthetic is added, nothing is sent out and nothing is stored.
It is not right for everyone. Certain blood, platelet and clotting disorders, and active scalp infection or inflammation, rule it out. That is part of what the assessment checks.
Why do I need blood work for a hair treatment?
Because hair loss is a symptom and something is causing it. Thyroid problems, low iron, a recent illness or major weight loss, and certain medications can all cause shedding, sometimes at the same time as pattern loss.
If a correctable driver is there, treating it is usually cheaper and simpler than injecting around it. We would rather find that at the first visit than have you spend six months finding out.
Can I combine PRP with other treatments?
Often, yes. PRP is commonly used alongside other approaches to hair loss and alongside treatment of whatever the labs turn up. Your clinician coordinates what you are taking so nothing works against anything else, and will tell you plainly which part of the plan is doing the work.
What happens if I stop?
Male pattern hair loss is progressive. PRP may slow and partly reverse thinning while you continue it. If you stop, hair generally drifts back toward its underlying trend over time. It is maintenance, so plan for an ongoing commitment or do not begin.
What does it cost?
