The Clinic
A room, not a queue.
Alpha Refinery occupies a private suite on Salt Creek Lane in Hinsdale. It was built to feel like somewhere you would choose to spend ninety minutes, rather than somewhere you wait.
The laboratory is in the same building. That single fact is why your results are read with you on the visit instead of emailed a week later, and it is the hardest thing for a subscription service to copy.

Before you book
What does the first visit cost?
The Alpha Performance Assessment is $497 in total. A $100 deposit reserves your appointment and is applied to the fee; the $397 balance is due after your consultation, not before. The optional at-home sleep study is an additional $297.
We are a cash-pay practice and do not bill insurance. Itemised receipts suitable for HSA and FSA submission are provided.
Do you take insurance?
No. Alpha Refinery is a cash-pay practice, and that is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight: it is what lets a first visit run ninety minutes instead of twelve, and it means no treatment decision is shaped by what a plan will reimburse. Prices are published before you book. Many patients submit our itemised receipts to an HSA or FSA.
How long until I get my results?
The same visit. Our laboratory is in the building, so your blood is drawn, processed and read back to you inside the same appointment, by the clinician who took your history. Where treatment is clinically appropriate it can begin that day.
The common alternative is a draw at one place, a send-out to a reference lab, and a portal notification a week later with numbers and no explanation.
Where are you, and is there parking?
12 Salt Creek Lane, Suite 350, Hinsdale, IL 60521, with free surface parking directly outside the building. We are a short drive from Oak Brook, Clarendon Hills, Burr Ridge, Western Springs, Downers Grove and La Grange.
Open Monday, Thursday and Friday 9am to 5pm, Tuesday 7am to 3pm, and Wednesday 11am to 7pm for men who cannot take a weekday morning.
Do I need a referral, or a diagnosis, to come in?
No referral is needed. Most men book because something has changed (energy, sleep, recovery, weight, drive) and they want to know why rather than be told it is age. You do not need to arrive with a theory, and you do not need to know which service you want.
Will I definitely leave with a prescription?
No, and any clinic that promises otherwise is selling rather than treating. Completing an assessment does not guarantee a prescription or any particular treatment. All treatment decisions are made independently by the treating clinician based on your history, evaluation, findings and applicable standards of care.
A meaningful share of men who come in convinced they need one thing turn out to have something else driving it: thyroid, iron, sleep, or a medication they are already taking. We would rather find that than write around it.
Do you treat women?
Yes. We built this practice to break a pattern: men have always reached preventive care late, and usually only because the woman in their life made the appointment. So we built somewhere a man would walk into on his own.
Then the women in those men's lives started asking for the same thing, and they were right to. They get the same ninety minutes, the same on-site lab and the same results read back in the room. Hormone therapy for women is a full part of the practice, and we see a lot of couples, often back to back, so one trip covers both.
Can you see me if I live outside Illinois?
No. Our clinicians are licensed in Illinois and we care for patients located in Illinois. The assessment is performed in Hinsdale by design: the blood draw, the same-day on-site processing, body composition and grip strength all require you to be in the building.
